Following the heartbreaking loss to Elk Grove in the 9th game of the Buffalo Grove HS football campaign, the

2009 Brad Football Story

is Now over!

Brad, our 17 year old Senior at Buffalo Grove HS, is on the varsity Football team.  On Varsity he starts on their Special Teams and on the Jr. Varsity squad is their starting running back and sometimes quarterback.  Of all our boys he is by far the hardest worker, but alas, also the lightest.  However, this boy can move.

His jersey number is 31.  Picture right is of him unleashing a long bomb in the 3rd game against Palatine.

This is our last of 4 boys who have went through city and now High School football.   Over 10 years of watching games on Fridays & Saturdays during the fall.  Time sure flies.

Ninth Game - BG Loses In Must Win Game To Elk Grove

In a must win game to reach the playoffs, BGHS lost a heartbreaker to Elk Grove by a score of 14-7.   Elk Grove had led well into the 4th quarter when BG got the wind at their backs and marched in for a touchdown to put them within reach.  Alas, the Bison defense could not hold Elk Grove and the Grenadiers marched down the field and ground down the clock to preserver their 14-7 victory.

It was Senior Nite and a very ill Kathy rose from her bed to walk with me on the field to greet Brad before the game.  It was a rainy cold evening and the field was muddy as we saw Brad on the gridiron for the last time.  Brad did great and his brother Ben came up from Eastern Illinois Universite to watch - what turned out to be - his brother's last game.   Brother Bryan also watched with pride as Brad completed his football career.  Picture below is of 3 of the brothers immediately after the game.

Eighth Game - BG Loses To To Rolling Meadows

In a crucial game at RM, the Bison played them even thru the 1st half, but then RM came out for the second half and dominated BG running up a winning score of 26-19.

Seventh Game - BG Wins Over Hersey High School

In another cold evening BG cruised over Hersey, ruining their Homecoming by a score of 21-0.    Brad had an absolutely stellar game by first blocking a critical Hersey punt, scooping us the ball and running down to Hersey's 23 yard line, setting up an important Buffalo Grove TD.   Late in the 4th quarter, Brad took over as QB and sealed the victory for the playoff bound Bison. Brad was quoted in the Daily Herald Newspaper as he recalled the great Punt Block.   It was so magnificent that I created it's own web page, which can be seen by clicking here.

Sixth Game - Homecoming Win Over Wheeling

In a cold miserable rainstorm, BGHS easily dispatched visitor Wheeling by the score of 28-0.   As usual Brad played on Special Teams and 'De-cleated' one Wheeling blocker when Brad caught him with a devastating block.   No JV game - so no pictures....

Fifth Game - Huge Varsity Win Over Powerhouse Prospect - JV Loss To Prospect

In a huge upset to Mt. Prospect - the 6th ranked team in Illinois, BGHS humbled them in a thriller 39-33 on a drizzly night at BG's field.   The University of Illinois Band was on hand to see this beauty and it was action packed from start to finish.   Brad played special teams and was the return man late in the game on a kickoff.  The JV game was played on Saturday morning and Prospect shutout the Bison, with Brad playing the entire game as running back, wide out and even a couple series as a defensive cornerback.  The boys did great!

Fourth Game - Varsity Win Over Hoffman estates - JV Loss To Schaumburg

The Buffalo Grove Varsity Bison destroyed the Hoffman Estates Hawks 41-14.   As usual, Brad played on the Special Teams, but with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Brad was put in as QB!   He had several excellent runs and ran the offense superbly.    The JV game was played the following day although it was against Schaumburg HS.   BG lost my a couple touchdowns to them - but Brad did great as a running back.

Third Game - Varsity loss to Palatine - Jr. Varsity wins

Varsity loses a slugfest 28-24 to Palatine on their field.  Brad does well on Special Teams

Jr. Varsity wins with Brad playing both running back and quarterback.  He throws a 30 yrd bomb late in the 4th quarter and then he runs it in for the last score

Second Game - Varsity loss to Barrington - Jr. Varsity loses too

Game was played as the home opener for BGHS.  Both teams scored a touchdown early in the 1st quarter and the score stayed that way until the end of the game.   In the overtime, Barrington scored on their possession and kicked the PAT to go up 7.   BG promptly tied it up but gambled by going for the 2 point conversion and failed.   Barrington wins a great game.     In the JV game, Brad played well as a running back although Barrington kept the victory.

Opening Game - Varsity victory over Mundelein - no JV game

BGHS was clearly the better team in this Mud Bowl played on a rain swollen pitch in Mundelein.   BGHS scored early and Mundelein never got close.   Field was in such rotten shape that they couldn't play the JV game the next day.
