On July 18-19 I revisited
with new work colleagues Neil Minto, Gary Beckett and Mike Greenwood from Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). CSC is the company that I outsourced Marconi's Information Technology to - and they couldn't have expressed their appreciation any better.
They put me up at the famous Russack's Hotel, which is directly astride the 18th fairway of the Old Course, overlooking the Clubhouse. It was awesome.
Thursday
was highlighted by playing the Old Course where, although hooking my tee shot
off the first into the Swilken Burn, we all finished strongly with a mix of pars
and bogies on the 18th to the delight of the gallery ringing the green.
Friday we were supposed to motor down to Gullane to take in the 1st day of the British Open that was underway at Muirfield, just outside Edinburgh.
However, after a quick discussion, we decided to scrap that in favor of staying in St. Andrews and playing the neighboring Jubilee Course, where Gary & I prevailed in a hotly contested match play event against Neil and Mike. (They may have let us win).
As good as the golf was Friday, the highlight of the day was lunching and lounging INSIDE the R&A Clubhouse as guests of Royal and Ancient Member Neil Minto. Upstairs, we had a proper Scottish lunch and downstairs we lounged with drinks in their front room, overshadowed by an enormous portrait of Old Tom Morris.
